Credit Cards
I work at a place that often calls people up without notice and asks them to purchase something over the phone. I have been surprised to see that many people actually go through with giving there credit card information right over the phone. I have asked myself if I would give some random person my credit card over the phone even if what they were selling was a good deal, or a great product. I want to know if you think there should any type of laws or circumstances about calling people up and asking for their credit card number or other personal info over the phone. I know I never would.

Never. It's way too dangerous. If someone gets ahold of your information, he or she can clean you out in a matter of minutes. I do buy a lot of things online, but only when I know it is a secure server.
its crazy how easy it is to get information like that from people. i sell security systems every summer and the poeple i sell too have no problem with throwing their credit card at me and on top of that they love to give out their social security number. But we cant get them a system if they have bad credit, so usually the people who are easy to give it out arent the ones we can give the system too. i think it is so stupid to throw that stuff out. i would never do it to a live person but i do buy alot of stuff online and i put my card info down on that. so whats the difference. for me i think its peice of mind that a webpage wont screw me over, but its the same concept when it all comes down to it.
I agree that it is easy to get credit card information from most people or sell credit cards to people. I work at Mervyn's and before we filled for bancrupcy i was also surprised at the large number of people that would open credit card account and not ask me why our company needed their social security number. However their are smart people in our country who can see past all that advertisement lieing and not give out their social security number; most all my customers that refused to open an account was because they were very protective of their social security numbers and were also cautious becuase they knew about identity theft.
There are things you have to give out yout social for like: a job or for school. But as long as you can accuratley evaluate websites that ask for your social or other personal information i don't see any harm in it as long as you don't do it CONSTANTLY...I also buy things online but only from one website so i don't really have that problem.
My mom was a victim of identity theft last year and knowing what she went through has made me more cautious about my credit union balances and my reciepts.
I don't have a credit card, but I have heard of the dangers of using them. It makes me not want one. I have a debit card and I do all I can not to even use it. I always prefer to use cash because it is the most secure. Not only that, it makes me feel cool when I pay cash.
I have a credit card and I would never give out my information over the phone! I have considered buying things on line before, butI never have bought anything from a non-reliable source. I just feel that the world is way to dangerous to trust just anyone with my personal info.
